We carefully choose our Shiba Inus by importing them ourselves so as to avoid inbreeding between generations. Inbreeding is the term used when dogs who share close genetic traits are mated with each other. Unfortunately, these animals are usually closely related. Mating two closely related animals can produce physical defects and disease. Inbreeding in dogs can weaken the immune systems and result in more auto-immune diseases. Inbred dogs seem to get sicker from common causes including catching colds and irritated skin leading to itching. Other negative effects are that the offspring are more aggressive and less intelligent.
